Reports: What we know about Bennacer’s €50m release clause – three key conditions

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have taken a big step forward in their efforts to keep Ismael Bennacer beyond the end of his current deal, but there are some very specific conditions regarding the release clause.

As has been reported by various outlets, including Gianluca Di Marzio, the club are set to insert a €50 million release clause in the Algerian’s new contract.

The new deal will run until 2027 and will see him earn €4 million per season and bonuses. The release clause of €50m has to be paid in one instalment by any prospective buyer.

It also does not apply to Italian clubs, meaning a team like Juventus would not be able to swipe Bennacer from Milan.

The clause is also not going to be valid in the summer of 2023, only in the following transfer windows.

Milan hope that by agreeing on this deal, they will not only keep the midfielder but also ensure they get a good transfer fee for him should he leave in the near future.

  1. So long as it’s not active the first summer then it’s fair. Surely it’s a summer only release? Or is it now a winter and summer clause?

    1. Lol. Why? He’s had this same release clause throughout his current contract. Now that he’s extending he’s DEFINITELY being bought out in 2024 when nobody’s triggered the clause to date? Some people just always find a way to be negative.

  2. Great deal. Yes we all would have wanted to have the release clause higher – and I’m sure M&M tried to increase it – but knowing a Raiola – he probably would not have signed if we increased it, so considering the situation – zero leverage as we don’t have a back up to replace him (Aster, Poegba, etc…not ready) and we could not afford to lose another player as we did with Kessie – this is a great deal. If a team comes in another year and pays 50M and he wants to leave then nothing we can do. hopefully by then Aster will have developed into his replacement or another player will be brought in. I just hope moving forward we can do what other team like Barca or Madrid or even Benfica do with all their young players when they sign their first contract – build in a crazy release clause from the start 100-120M – or in Barca’s case 400M lol – that will never be paid of course but it serves as a protection for the club from poaching and it allows us to negotiate. We did it for Leao at 120-150M…should do so for all players if their agents insist on a release clause. We always tend not to value our own players as highly as others and sell for lower. They are arbitrary clauses anyways. If the player comes good then it’s valid and if he doesn’t who cares you can negotiate it down – but your negotiating from a position of strength. Anyways good deal. On to Leao and Giroud.

  3. I think we are seeing the proof that M&M have learned from past renewals and are able grow. Hopefully Leao resigns next and they can move on to transfers for the summer. Priority for the summer should be RW and a third CM for the double pivot. Hopefully CDK and Adli find their form so they don’t have to think too hard about Diaz sqqqqD
