Bennacer reacts to Brescia win: “We can do much better”

By Oliver Fisher -

Midfielder Ismael Bennacer has admitted that AC Milan can do much better after their win over Brescia on Saturday.

Marco Giampaolo tasted his first competitive victory as Rossoneri head coach at San Siro as his side beat their newly-promoted opponents 1-0.

Hakan Calhanoglu got the decisive goal for Milan early on as he headed home a Suso cross inside the first 15 minutes.

Bennacer arrived from Empoli in a deal worth €16million and did not start the first game of the season at Udinese as he continued his recovery from starring at the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

However, he was thrust into the starting XI by Giampaolo for the game against Brescia, putting in an impressive performance playing at the base of the midfield three.

After the game, he spoke to reporters in the mixed zone, and admitted there is plenty of room for improvement despite the win.

“The result was important, we won and I’m happy, but we can do much better,” Bennacer told DAZN (via PianetaMilan).

“Today we were more united, we listened to the coach so much and we did better. We play the ball a lot and I have to show myself, but I still have to learn a lot in this role but I’m happy.

“We could have won 3 or 4 to 0, slowly. Now we are calmer, when we win it is always good. Now, we have the international break and then [focus on] the next game.”
