SM: Berardi to Milan rumours relaunched – why the Rossoneri are not convinced

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have once again been linked with a move for Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi, but his profile is not one that seems to convince the management.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reported this morning how Stefano Pioli wants a player for the right wing and Berardi is a profile the management are targeting. They added how they should be able to use two things in their favour: Champions League football which would please the player, and the budget to be able to pay the €30-35m asking price.

Encouraging numbers

Berardi’s performances in Serie A with Sassuolo certainly suggest that he would be very useful to the Rossoneri’s cause, given that he has hit double figures in league goals for five seasons in a row, scoring 10 goals in 16 games against Milan over his time with the Neroverdi too.

Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias are not quite at that level in terms of goal threat and end product so Berardi would undoubtedly be an upgrade on paper. He has 12 goals this season, while the Belgian and the Brazilian have 7 combined.

Unconvincing profile

However, we have learned through our colleagues at SempreMilan.it that Milan have never pushed hard for the Italy international and they are unlikely to do so this summer as things stand currently.

One reason for this is the value for money factor, because the 27-year-old is very much in a comfort zone with Sassuolo at the moment and when playing at higher levels (with Italy) he has not particularly shone.

When the pressure rises he tends to suffer, and while it would also be fair to give a chance to a player who is interesting from a technical-tactical point of view like Berardi, the asking price of the Neroverdi – which is likely to be high – are likely to mean Maldini and Massara look at other profiles who can grow in value.

    1. Isak is amazing — but Sociedad will ask for a huge price. Not sure Elliot will be willing or able to spend that kind of money. In my opinion, Isak is actually worth it though. He’s the best forward out there that we can go after (because we certainly don’t have the money to pay for Mbappe or Haaland!!); but honestly, I think Isak is SO GOOD that one day a few years from now he could be competing with Mbappe and Haaland for the Balon D’or.

  1. Leon Bailey signed for Villa for £30m. Hes played 4 games and now Villa dont play with right sided wingers, so he doesnt fit in. He would be good at the right price, but i suspect his wages would be high as hes on 5m euros per season

  2. We can buy Noa Lang and Yusuf Demir for that money. Berardi is a good player but for that money you can get even more.

  3. Well,Berardi already in comfort zone in Sassuolo and we Will not getting help from Berardi to lower transfer fee since he is not excited move to other club. My prediction Sassuolo Will asking price 30-40m euro and if we pay that ,they will take junior messias cost 5m euro ( huge capital gain) . I dont think Berardi worth more than 25m euro since he can only do right Winger. Better go versatile player that can play many position like noa Lang,de ketelare or ziyech( Chelsea ini turmoil in England)

    1. Yeah but they can’t sell players and who knows when will they allow it to them. They have a few players with expiring contracts we should have gone for.

  4. once again, go for a profile which is fighting and running for a big contract.
Guys please check salary of Nkunku!! far we are from such good scouting

  5. Berardi is the best rw in seria A right now. His characteristic can upgrade milan to next level like ibra did when he arrive

  6. The author of this article is WRONG. “When the pressure rises he tends to suffer” — WHAT???
His great cross in Italy’s first match v Turkey caused the own goal; he assisted a Locatelli goal for Italy and he converted PK in Euro and also in the 3rd place match versus Belgium in the Nations League.

This player is GREAT and double figures in goals in FIVE STRAIGHT YEARS speaks for itself. Right now, BY FAR our weakest position is RW with Saele and Messias — if we get Berardi it is an IMMEDIATE upgrade and a HUGE HUGE upgrade. This author is crazy and has some other agenda.

  7. I’ll correct myself — not the author is wrong; but whoever said that Berardi suffers under pressure to the author of this article is the one who is wrong.

I think it is a big mistake for Milan management to not go after Berardi. BIG mistake. He is absolutely perfect fit for our team.

  8. For around 25-30m it’s a great move. Not any more though. However the main reason management doesn’t want him is because he’s not 14 and he’s italian. Same reason we’re not snapping up belotti in a heartbeat who’s a free transfer….

    1. I agree. Don’t we have a quota of home grown players to meet? We can’t be having too many Ligue 1 players in the team. Belotti and Berardi would help with that. And maybe to add a Serie A home grown left back?

  9. I think the Milan project should accommodate experienced players like Berardi, he is not up to 30 in age. We will not know how important it is to have players like him on the time until cross the group stage in UCL then we will know we need people like him exposed to the goal.
