Boban: “We will return to the top; Donnarumma, Suso and Kessie?…”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must remain patient but they have started on their path back to the top, Zvonimir Boban has told il Corriere della Sera.

Milan will be looking to go one better than last season – when they finished fifth in the table – by cracking the top four and securing a return to the Champions League.

The Rossoneri are under the guidance of new head coach Marco Giampaolo and begin their season on Sunday night against Udinese.

Boban, who joined the club’s new-look management over the summer, told il Corriere della Sera that the way for Milan to get back to the top is by making ‘logical choices’.

He said: “It will take time, but we will return to the top. No fireworks but logical choices. The low profile should not be mistaken for low ambition.

“Donnarumma, Suso and Kessie? Our desire is to keep them, absolutely. I don’t want to make comparisons, but I can say that time and results will tell us who has worked well and who is not.

“We are doing our best considering the various problems. It will take time, but I am convinced that in the end the fans will be happy with our choices.

“We are not looking for senseless fireworks, like a few years ago. We need to make more logical choices in terms of football.

“The new owner has brought stability – otherwise, neither Paolo [Maldini] nor I would be here.”
