SM: Neutral venue and 3-0 forfeit among options as Bologna-Milan talks continue

The circumstances surrounding the game between Bologna and AC Milan have descended into chaos and confusion, with three options reportedly on the table.

The announcement that came in the past couple of hours through the press agency ANSA was that the Mayor of Bologna has signed an ordinance. This effectively orders for the postponement of the game, due to inclement weather and flooding in the area of the stadium.

According to what we have learned through our correspondent Luca Maninetti, the game continues to be at the centre of negotiations between all parties, and it is possible that the game could be played after all.

The main deduction at present is that the postponement was the autonomous initiative of the Mayor, who did not speak with the Prefect of Bologna, making use – albeit in an interpretative manner – of the same regulations that were drawn up for Covid regarding postponement for health reasons.

The mayor does not have the power to cancel the match. This means that the match is not officially postponed and this could lead to three scenarios:

  1. A 3-0 forfeit with the result awarded in Milan’s favour if the insistence is that the Stadio Renato dall’Ara cannot be used, despite the fact it is useable;
  2. Bologna-Milan to be played at a neutral venue by order of Lega Serie A which, the governing body of the league;
  3. Bologna-Milan played on Saturday at 18:00 CEST but behind closed doors, a decision that Bologna could not resist.

A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning between the Prefect and the Mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, to try to get the Mayor to backtrack.

  1. Play behind closed door
    Atleast this will give Theo and Tijani the opportunity to serve their suspension and be fresh for Napoli who are a stronger opponent

  2. One one side, they really could use the rest as they’ll be facing the best team in the world next week in UCL. But since no one is expecting Milan to score any points there it could be better to get Theo & Reijnders back against Napoli.

    So… How ever it goes, it will have its pros and cons.

    1. We will need everyone against Napoli and even that might not be enough.
      Although it seems a strech at this point, but I’d like to see us winning the scudetto this season.
