MN: Milan stress desire to sign Botman during meeting and the interest is mutual

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are pushing ahead in talks over the signing of Sven Botman in an attempt to get a deal wrapped up before the summer window, according to a report.

MilanNews writes that Casa Milan hosted the agency of Sven Botman yesterday, and during a meeting Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara reaffirmed their desire to sign the Dutchman because they view him as the ideal long-term partner to Fikayo Tomori in the heart of defence.

The appreciation is very much mutual as Botman would also like to move to Milan in the summer. There has been no talk of figures in detail, but the plan of action seems to be to find an agreement with the player himself after having found one with Lille.

It is good news for head coach Stefano Pioli who has been battling a defensive emergency at times this season and would welcome a reinforcement of such quality.

  1. In football economy, it is wiser to sign a player and pay half the wages that a free agent is requesting.

Players signed with fees have capitation on the balance sheet. Thus they increase the club capital, asset and club valuation.

An expensive free signing for Average players like Romagnoli, Donnaruma, Kessi or even Hakan will only add cost of wages to the balance sheet without any impact on capital, asset and club valuation.

So I understand why it is more attractive to sign Botman than used the money to keep Romagnoli.

Milan will only renew at high cost for exceptional players like Theo, Leoa, Ibra etc.

Milan focus now is the balance sheet for every move made in the market. I must say that, Milan are currently operating the best model in football business
