Brahim Diaz thanks Donnarumma after ‘a unique and unforgettable night’ in Portugal

AC Milan playmaker Brahim Diaz has reflected on an ‘unforgettable night’ which saw the Rossoneri qualify for the groups stages of the Europa League.

Milan found a way to make it past Rio Ave and into the Europa League group stages, but they did not have it all their own way at all as in the previous round against Bodo/Glimt.

Alexis Saelemaekers opened the scoring for the Rossoneri in the second half, but goals from Geraldes in normal time and Gelson Dala early in extra time had Milan trailing until the 120th minute.

Drama then struck as a penalty was awarded for handball which Hakan Calhanoglu despatched, and then an absolutely incredible penalty shootout occurred in which Rio Ave spurned three winning kicks as Milan fought back to win 9-8 after 24 spot kicks.

Brahim Diaz was interviewed by Milan TV after the match against Rio Ave, in which he came on at half-time and made a big impact.

“A unique and unforgettable night but we got what we wanted. Donnarumma is a great goalkeeper, I expected something of him and in fact the final save has arrived. From these nights we have to take charge to do better and better,” he said (via MilanLive).
