Ex-Brugge defender on De Ketelaere: “In Belgium they’re certain he will go to Milan”

Former Club Brugge defender Walter Meeuws has said that people in Belgium are certain that Charles De Ketelaere will move to AC Milan this summer.

Speaking during an interview with Milan News, the former Belgium defender shed some light on how those within Belgium view the Milan target and his transfer situation right now.

He first confirmed that there are English teams who are chasing De Ketelaere bit the feeling within Belgium is that he will be a Milan player.

“There are English teams interested in de Ketelaere but here in Belgium they are certain he will go to Milan,” Meeuws said.

Meeuws was asked if there is a particular player from the past that he would compare De Ketelaere to and the Milan fans will definitely be happy with the name that he chose.

“For me he is similar to Kaka, especially on a physical level and with his presence. And like Kaka with the ball he is strong. But it’s always difficult to make comparisons. He is Charles de Ketelaere, he has his own style and he doesn’t have to copy anyone,” he said.

Despite this clear acceptance of a possible move to Milan, Meeuws feels that De Ketelaere could benefit from one more year at Club Brugge.

“I think it would be better for Charles to stay at Brugge for another year, take over the national team and then go abroad,” he said.

Heading back to the topic of Kaka, Meeuws expressed some doubt that De Ketelaere will be able to reach the Ballon d’Or winning heights that the Brazilian did.

“I don’t think so, but it depends on which teams he plays for and whether his next coaches believe in him. In football even if you have talent, to make a great career you always have to have a bit of luck,” Meeuws said.

“If for example he had gone to AC Milan two years ago it would not have been the best and his career would have suffered. But Milan today is stronger, a really good team.”
