Ex-Brugge defender on De Ketelaere: “In Belgium they’re certain he will go to Milan”

By Euan Burns -

Former Club Brugge defender Walter Meeuws has said that people in Belgium are certain that Charles De Ketelaere will move to AC Milan this summer.

Speaking during an interview with Milan News, the former Belgium defender shed some light on how those within Belgium view the Milan target and his transfer situation right now.

He first confirmed that there are English teams who are chasing De Ketelaere bit the feeling within Belgium is that he will be a Milan player.

“There are English teams interested in de Ketelaere but here in Belgium they are certain he will go to Milan,” Meeuws said.

Meeuws was asked if there is a particular player from the past that he would compare De Ketelaere to and the Milan fans will definitely be happy with the name that he chose.

“For me he is similar to Kaka, especially on a physical level and with his presence. And like Kaka with the ball he is strong. But it’s always difficult to make comparisons. He is Charles de Ketelaere, he has his own style and he doesn’t have to copy anyone,” he said.

Despite this clear acceptance of a possible move to Milan, Meeuws feels that De Ketelaere could benefit from one more year at Club Brugge.

“I think it would be better for Charles to stay at Brugge for another year, take over the national team and then go abroad,” he said.

Heading back to the topic of Kaka, Meeuws expressed some doubt that De Ketelaere will be able to reach the Ballon d’Or winning heights that the Brazilian did.

“I don’t think so, but it depends on which teams he plays for and whether his next coaches believe in him. In football even if you have talent, to make a great career you always have to have a bit of luck,” Meeuws said.

“If for example he had gone to AC Milan two years ago it would not have been the best and his career would have suffered. But Milan today is stronger, a really good team.”

  1. Exactly what i’ve seen in this young man.
he really moves like “kaka” though kaka is an odd, but CDK can be great player. Within next 3 yrs if milan continue like this in serie A and improve in UCL he “CDK and LEAO” One or both would definitely nominated as ballon d’or mark my word. fellow milanisti.

    1. I dearly hope we sign De Ketelaere, some milanisti are skeptical and I don’t blame them but he’s performed extremely well in their UCL Matches and M&M know what they are doing with these young players not to mention moncada who has also done an exceptional job. Now though there should be no excuses because if everyone at Milan agrees on De Ketelaere then there should be no delays unless a bidding war that exceeds our financial capabilities but the feeling is good so far that we have the leverage and therefore may complete this transfer

  2. He’ll be a Leeds player within a week. Skinflint Milan will end up signing only free agents and under-17s.

      1. Of course I’m a fan of the club; just not a fan of the pathetic transfer policy. Why not see if I’m right or wrong before peeing in your pants?

  3. Hebhas great skill to be compared to aome player like kaka, but it is not right comparing him with other player, because he has his own styles. However, the doubt is only on what milan can do and offer to get his signature. I believe, many Milanisti hoping to welocome CDK at san siro.

  4. Confirmations from Schira, Romano and DiMarzio that CdKs agent has been negotiating contract for DeKetelaere today…Hopefully they put on their most convicing preformance.
