Watch: Cagliari fans target Milan players with racial abuse and scuffle breaks out

By Oliver Fisher -

There was a lot of tension after AC Milan’s win against Cagliari tonight and a confrontation erupted between both sets of players and staff.

Manuele Baiocchini of Sky (via MilanNews) reports that when the match was over, a few too many words were aimed at Mike Maignan and the Milan goalkeeper responded with a gesture cupping his ears, after which the Cagliari players reacted by telling him not to provoke.

In addition to that, there were clear monkey noises heard from the Cagliari fans towards certain players.

  1. The same problem and the Italian federation didn’t do anything to fix racism in serie a 🤦‍♂️

No wonder plenty of good players didn’t want to play in serie a 🤦‍♂️

    1. Yup. Until the League starts to institute stadium bans for these racist displays nothing will change. So disgraceful, but the League doesn’t care and they do absolutely nothing. They need to have the team play behind close doors – sadly that is the only way people will get the message and how the non-racist fans will police the racist fans and only way the owners of these clubs will actually do something and kick these racist pieces of garbage out of the stadium for good. Sad

  2. Seems to happen again and again at Cagliari, and yet nothing ever seems to be done about it – the inaction is an absolute stain on the Italian game.

  3. It is human nature at its worst, real simple next game NO fans, plain and simple, this will self police. The certainty of punishment is the deterent , not the severity. It happens again no fans……direct correlation between ignorance and racism, sad but true.
