Cairo admits ‘Milan have the money’ to sign Torino star but raises a wall

By Oliver Fisher -

Torino president Urbano Cairo has seemingly confirmed that AC Milan are willing to pay up for Alessandro Buongiorno, but stressed that he has no desire to sell him.

According to Calciomercato.com, Cairo was a guest on the Radio Rai program ‘Un giorno da pecora’ and he spoke about the future of his captain.

“Milan have the money but we renewed his contract until to 2028. There’s no talking about it, I don’t want to sell him. He wants to stay at Torino, I want to keep him, period. He is growing a lot,” he said.

It seems like a full closing of the door, which also reflects the position expressed by the player himself in recent days. However, every player has their price and for €30m+ Cairo could at least come to the negotiating table.

The Rossoneri want to invest in another central defencder after the return of Matteo Gabbia from his loan at Villarreal and the purchase of Filippo Terracciano from Verona, and they have Buongiorno near the top of their list.

After the Radu Dragusin deal vanished, Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio set off in search of a left-footed centre-back and in this sense Lilian Brassier remains in their orbit. He is the same age as Buongiorno (24), but would cost €12-13m.

However, there is another route being explored. Milan are evaluating the idea of lowering the cash outlay necessary to conclude the deal through the inclusion of a counterpart like Lorenzo Colombo, who is on loan to Monza until the end of the season.

The Italian could be used as a bargaining chip just as he was in the talks with Genoa for Dragusin. Cairo lowers the shutters and raises the wall for Buongiorno, but Milan could try and change his mind.

  1. kinda forgot what a pain this dude is. If he wants him so bad, let him. after torino misses on eu games we can try sweet talking Buongiorno in the summer. (assuming pioli doesnt put us behind torino by then). If he is not game go for Calafiori

  2. In the next 2-6 weeks our center back roster will be
    Kalulu
    Thiaw
    Tomori
    Kjaer
    Gabbia
    Simic
    Pellegrino

    Not to mention
Theo who is doing ok at CB
Caldara who is finished by injury

    That’s 7 CB’s
    5 of whom are experienced
    and 2 youngsters

What is this madness of looking to spend more money on that position, it’s utter stupidity
Especially when our midfield is rubbish and our center forwards are pretty average

    1. Kalulu will be out longer. And in playing shape? Add extra 2-3 weeks to that too.

And Caldara really is finished. Like I said in September or October: he has played his late game in the Rossoneri already.

  3. You say and I agree with you that it’s madness spending more money on defence .Our problem does lie with the midfield.. creativity is poor .centre forwards we have a good one Olivier Giroud. He is doing pretty good ,but starved of decent service of late .He needs decent crosses put into him and he will score goals especially with his head .His stats are not bad at all . second highest scorer in seara A .9 goals 6 assists.that should read even more. That said he will still possibly score around 20 goals this season.
We have jovic ( not in the same class as Giroud ) the game against Atalanta the service to him was non existent.
Any how let’s move on we will win our next game against Roma ,with Olivier leading the line .He will be on the scoresheet again .
Never ever write this man off

    1. Agreed with the productivity but the defence is the problem after all, we conceded 20 from 19 matches, Inter 9 and Juve 12, Juve has 7 points more with only 29 goals scored while we scored 35 goals, yes we need to score more goals (we are 9 goals behind inter) but we also need to have clean sheet and conceded less (20 to 9 is a big gap)

  4. If Milan had half of the creativity Inter has, Giroud would be tied with Lautaro in the scoring charts. It’s amazing he has so many goals with the pathetic, non-existing service he has.

The strikers aren’t the problem. The lack of chances is.

  5. Don’t think we need another defender, maybe a backup on loan with option so Incase he sattles we can grab him. But if we really are going for it we should consider finding a defender who will compliment the likes of Simic, kalulu or tomori. Which would be a tall physical one who is good in the air. Dragosin would have made perfect sense.even someone like Scalvini

  6. this president would hold the players just like he did with belotti and then whine how he regret not selling the player on his prime.
