Fabio Capello believes that AC Milan can still have their say in the Scudetto race if they can establish some consistency in the league.
Capello was interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport and he was asked about Milan, who currently sit behind the ‘magnificent six’ who are currently separated by just two points heading into the November break.
Can Milan catch up with those above?
“If they were still the wonderful team seen in Madrid, the answer would undoubtedly be yes. In the Cagliari version, however, it would be difficult for Fonseca to come back. But which is the real Milan?” he said (via MilanNews).
That question is one that Milan fans have been asking themselves since the game against Cagliari. A 3-1 win against the champions of Europe at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League was followed by a 3-3 draw against a team that were just above the relegation zone.
The defensive record for the Rossoneri is the real worry, given they are struggling to keep clean sheets and have conceded 20 goals across 15 games in all competitions. Not only that, but they have let in two or more goals in seven matches, showing that there is an obvious number one issue.
If anyone is still talking about Scudetto and not hopes of top 4, I would like to know what they are smoking…
Well one of the points in the article is just how tight it is at the top. No one team has skipped away. If you can get into top 4 then you can challenge for the scudetto.
But at this point we will do neither until we can improve the defence.
4231 is not the best formation for this squad.
The real Milan is the Milan that an opponent does not let play. It’s the Milan that lets Cagliari hit the back of its net 5 times and conceded enough good chances to Zortea, Zappa and Piccoli that but for a collective foot they’d all have scored hat tricks (i.e. they could have scored 9 goals).
The real Milan has nothing to do with the Real Madrid performance because Madrid is an utterly dysfunctional team (even if it has superstars in attack). It has no capacity to upset the way an opponent plays which is why it had already lost to Lille (I think it was who is not even close to the top of the Ligue 1 table) in the UCL and why it got hammered by a relatively mediocre Barcelona.
Putting aside 2 outlier results, being those against Inter and Real, has Milan played another decent game?
In the last 2 league games it was battered by Monza for 60 minutes and batter by Cagliari for90. Parma shredded Milan in round 2 or whatever it was.
