Tuttosport: Cardinale considers making budget available as Chelsea winger remains a target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is now considering bringing forward some of the funding planned for the summer window to try sign a new forward this month, a report claims.

After the purchase of goalkeeper Devis Vasquez from Club Guarani, Paolo Maldini and Stefano Pioli both declared the incoming transfer market closed, insisting that no more business will be done and that the focus was on getting injured players back.

However, Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report that the team’s performances and their dreadful start to 2023 – which has already seen two trophy chances vanish – could push Cardinale to consider advancing part of the summer budget to this winter transfer market.

At the end of January, for example, the name of Ziyech could come back into fashion. He was struggling for playing time with Chelsea before the window reopens, but the signings of Joao Felix, Mudryk, Fofana and Madueke threaten to even further limit his chances.

    1. Didn’t Ziyech say he wanted $9-10 million in wages? No way in hell that happens when we can’t give Leo what he wants to sign him to an extension. Plus, I know he did well in the world cup but I’m kind of tired of being linked to players from other teams that don’t want them. Don’t we already have enough of these unwanted players on our team? He would probably be an upgrade over the saladmaker and the DHL delivery guy but I’m not convinced that he will be the long term answer, not if his salary demands are true.

      1. I guess Cardinale knows Leao isn’t signing (after all?). They had the 7M€ ready for Leao but since he wants to go, they can splash out the money on someone else.

Although… Chelsea already bought 3 wingers so they’re not going get Leao which brings the question: who is? City? Don’t need him. Real? Don’t need him. Then who?

        1. That has nothing to do with it. Every report coming out of milan about Leao is positive. Werent you also saying Bennacer wasnt going to re-sign?

        2. Just get rid of him and get the money sign someone else who is prepared to work for gods sake he is not that good he can’t even head a football let him go get the money quick before nobody wants him

  1. I wish someone serious bought ac milan someone who loves the club like the people that bought psg, Newcastle, Chelsea and city it is not only about the money but the way they live with the club they really invests them self in the club

  2. Hehe – Milan aren’t and shouldn’t be in the market for ‘scraps’ and expensive ones at that!
Need to get back to strategic buying, not panic buying..

  3. I actually would prefer they keep the budget for the summer as opposed to shifting some of it to the winter. More players will be available at the end of the season and the prices are generally more affordable than in the January window.

      1. Yeah, and Zyiech will help with UCL qualification. He has over-hyped himself, thinks of himself at least twice from the player he actually is. Anyway, loan with option to buy, ok. Anything else, fail. We already took Bakayoko from them, we don’t need to take more failures and bad characters to understand it shouldn’t be done…

      2. Sure, there is always that risk but I don’t think an addition of the kind that is realistic will make much of a difference to this season. May as well roll the dice with the players that are here and make a more thought out upgrade in the summer.

  4. Madueke would probably cost less if you consider wages, the same logic was used to get rid of Donnarumma and bring in Maignan. So, we are now bringing failures with high wages instead of young players? I thought the policy is to bring young talents and not Zyiech that doesn’t want to run because he is lazy and thinks he is Ronaldinho so he can skip running and tracking back. :DDDD

  5. This Cardinali is not a soccer fan. he doesn’t have the passion to understand how to move forward with the team. His passion is only $$$
