Cardinale wants Milan to win but adds: “We also need to qualify for next year’s UCL”

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has stressed the importance of qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League.

Milan have found themselves in a rather peculiar situation whereby they are in the final four of the Champions League and would reach the final if they were to beat Inter over two games, but in the league a top four spot is far from guaranteed which would mean they would not even participate in the next edition of the competition.

Cardinale was interviewed by Sportico and he stressed just how important it is that Milan keep competing in the Champions League because of the revenues and exposure it brings.

“My competitive spirit is in circulation and I want to win more than anything else. But from a commercial point of view I don’t lose sight of the fact that we also need to qualify for next year’s Champions League,” he said (via MilanNews).

On the issue of the new stadium, the American businessman explained that Milan are exploring new options, met with local officials and identified several potential areas on which to build the new stadium. A decision will come in the ‘next months’.
