Castillejo: “If we don’t win the Scudetto we won’t be angry, but we will be angry if…”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan winger Samu Castillejo has insisted that the team will not be angry if they don’t win the Scudetto, but winning the Europa League is an objective.

Milan make the trip to France having had their 24-game unbeaten run snapped by Lille earlier in the month with a 3-0 defeat at San Siro.

Castillejo is highly likely to take back a spot in the starting XI due to the injury sustained by Alexis Saelemaekers in Sunday’s win over Napoli.

The Spaniard spoke to SportMediaset ahead of the visit to Lille, with his comments transcribed by MilanNews and translated below.

On the competition for the right wing spot, he began: “We play at Milan, there is a lot of competition and many strong players. Since last year we have been playing every three days.”

On the current moment: “The numbers and statistics speak for themselves, we are the team that has scored the most points in 2020 since the beginning of this year.”

Milan have started the league campaign exceptionally well, winning six of their first eight games, sitting top of the table by two points and having some fans dreaming of a title challenge.

On the potential of a Scudetto race, Castillejo responded:”If we don’t win the Scudetto we won’t be angry, but we will be angry if we don’t reach our goals.”

On the absence of Ibrahimovic: “He is a player who gives us a lot, both on and off the pitch. We also have strong players who can play up front, so we are calm. We will miss Ibra a lot.”

On the match against Lille: “It’s a difficult match. They showed at San Siro that they are a strong team.

“We have to go there with the mentality of winning and, above all, of showing that we want to win the Europa League.”
