The Champions League draw is set for the end of August, and AC Milan will now know which teams they are alongside in the draw after the latest stage of qualification.
Starting this weekend, the season officially begins as Milan welcome Torino to San Siro for the first action of the 2024/25 Serie A campaign, and on the 29th of August, the first steps will be taken for this year’s Champions League.

Although the draw takes place at the end of this month, the first Champions League fixture will not be played for another month and the Rossoneri’s first game will take place between the 17 and 19th of September.
With the competition approaching Calcio e Finanza (via Radio Rossonera) have reported which pot the Diavolo find themselves in, after the latest set of qualification games.
After Rangers were eliminated by Dinamo Kyiv last night, there are no more threats to Milan’s position within the second pot of the Champions League rankings – the Scottish side were the only team with a higher UEFA ranking than the Rossoneri’s.
Following this news, Milan will find themselves alongside Juventus and Atalanta in the ‘second pot’, Inter reside in the first tier pot, whereas Bologna sit in the third pot, but they are expected to be drawn in the fourth pot.
At least second pot doesn’t guarantee death group situation
There are no groups starting with this year, but still, being in the second pot means easier opponents, at least in theory.
Pot 2 is great news for Milan.
But why is Atalanta in pot 2?
Isn’t the winner of Europa league automatically placed in pot 1?
It used to be.
I guess it’s because for a group system, it’s meant to serve as an advantage for the Europa League champion.
But for this new format, and since there are no groups, plus no home and away games, it is purely a “power ranking”, to make sure that there is a balance of some sort between the opponents that each team will face.
So basically, now the UEL champion (in this case Atalanta) could be ranked in any pot.. 1, 2, 3, or 4.
It solely depends on their UEFA coefficient.
The real question is how come Rangers has a higher Uefa ranking than Milan?..
Milan have missed out on Uefa for several seasons until Pioli came to restore us back… The qualification measures are different now.
