AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze has stated that he likes working under Paulo Fonseca and that he already feels the trust of the new head coach.
It was a strange first season at Milan for Chukwueze after he was the most expensive of 10 summer signings a year ago. He found himself behind Christian Pulisic in the pecking order and also had injury issues that prevented him getting a run of games.
However, with a new coach comes a clean slate and the feeling is that the former Villarreal man will use preseason to put up a fight for a starting spot. He certainly helped his case with the performance against Manchester City last night.
Chukwueze got two assists in the first half of the match and both were crosses for Lorenzo Colombo, the first one headed in and the second finished with a low volley.
At the end of the match, Luca Bianchin – the correspondent for La Gazzetta dello Sport in the United States – relayed some statements from the Nigerian on his X profile.
“I like the new coach, he gave me an opportunity straight away, it’s important when someone trusts you. The fans will see a new Samu this year,” he said.

He should’ve been starting last year it’s like they didn’t see what he did all the year before in Spain. Puli should be starting at CAM!
I 100% agree. The trident behind striker imho should be Leao, Puli and Chuk.
But Pioli didn’t give him proper chance Pioli has less trust on players who didnt join pre-season, as if it determines the whole season. For those players (who joined pre-season), making mistakes during matches will be forgiven, while it was not the case for the ones who didn’t join pre-season. A bad game and they will be benched until the “main” players got injured, or in less important matches.
What I really dont like about Pioli is this kind of trust issue / mindset. Some will argue about he is good by giving chance, but in most case, that’s because he was forced to use his B-list players due to injury or card accumulation crisis, such as the case for Kalulu and Thiaw. Meanwhile such as Leao or Giroud or RLC, even though when they were having bad period (which is normal for players), but still they were fielded as starting 11 next game if possible (no thight schedulle).

Chuk is still a one – footed player !!! Limits his play to not being able to cross the ball using his right foot . My mother could defend him, he cuts to his left 98 percent of the time ! It could be a problem down the road when we are not playing a B side.

I can’t understand how can ppl tell off what a player who has proven himself in top professional competitions can do, and to be able to be beaten by their mom or their 10 yo son. If being beaten by other defenders in the league, maybe okay. But expressing it like that, it makes them as if they are amateur. Yeah I know it is just an expression, but still…
I think the signings from last season will look a lot better this season. A full year of integration behind their belts. A coach with new ideas and improved systems would help this.
