CIES: Milan rank way above rivals Inter and Juventus in interesting statistic

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are currently second-highest in the Serie A rankings in terms of giving minutes to players under the age of 21, a study has revealed.

According to the latest from the CIES football observatory – as cited by MilanLive – the Rossoneri rank second among all clubs in Italy’s top flight, with players under 21 having played 15.5% of the total minutes. This is a figure which of course reinforced the youth project which the Diavolo are seemingly insistent on enforcing.

Genoa, however, stands out with 19.2%. The big names in the Serie A are very detached, with very little focus on the under 21s. Lazio have a paltry 0.4%, while then there are Atalanta (0.9%), Naples (2.8%), Inter (5.3%), Juventus (7.9%) and Roma (11.1%).

Milan’s squad looks set to get even younger with Lucas Biglia, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Giacomo Bonaventura all on expiring contracts. You can read Vito Angele’s latest feature on the latter here, including why he should be offered a new deal.
