CIES study predicts Serie A title fight between Milan, Inter and Juve to be extremely close

By Oliver Fisher -

A study has predicted AC Milan to fall agonisingly short of a first Scudetto in 10 years, with city rivals Inter picked to capture the title.

The CIES observatory of numbers and statistics (via MilanLive) have created an algorithm based on a number of different factors to calculate the projection of how the table will look at the end of the season.

It takes into account points won so far but also shots on goal, scoring opportunities created and conceded, ball possession in the various areas of the field and passes completed

The hypothetical final table foresees the Nerazzurri as champions with 81 points, while Milan would have to be satisfied with second place and a final total of 79 points. Juventus (78 points) and Napoli (76) would be breathing down their neck.

Roma and Atalanta would qualify for the Europa League, while Lazio would settle for seventh place. We hope, of course, that CIES have got it wrong.
