Sources close to AC Milan have reportedly confirmed that the club intend to continue full steam ahead with their San Donato project.
Yesterday, the Mayor of Milano – Beppe Sala – confirmed that Milan and Inter have now said no to WeBuild’s plan to renovate San Siro which was presented recently. They put forward a €400m project to bring the stadium up to speed, but the clubs believe it is unrealistic from a cost perspective.

However, as part of his statement after he had spoken with both clubs at the City Hall, Sala revealed that the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri are now keen on re-exploring the idea of building a new stadium in the San Siro area near the current one.
This something that was first put officially put forward five years ago and was shelved eventually due to there being too many changes requested compared to the original plans, in addition to the constraint being put on San Siro which essentially ruled out any partial demolition.
According to Il Cittadino (via MilanNews) – who cite sources very close to Milan – the plan A remains to build the new stadium in San Donato Milanese in the San Francesco area, even if they remain open to evaluating other ideas.
The fact that the club have begun the formal process which is the Program Agreement and have spent a substantial amount to purchase the land suggests that any kind of abrupt U-turn is unlikely.
