CM: Clear signal sent regarding Vranckx as decision time on €12m deal approaches

By Oliver Fisher -

There were some eyebrows raised when Tiemoue Bakayoko came off the bench during the win over Monza, and it sent a message about Aster Vranckx’s current standing.

That is according to Calciomercato.com who write that Vranckx remains a mystery especially after the Monza win on Saturday. Malick Thiaw has been showing what he can do in defence while the midfield is a bit short due to Ismael Bennacer’s injury, and yet Bakayoko came on over the Belgian for the last few minutes.

So far the 20-year-old has made seven appearances in Serie A, none as a starter, with one start coming in the Coppa Italia against Torino. His last league minutes came against Lecce in mid-January, more than a month ago, with Stefano Pioli clearly deeming him not ready to use yet.

Bakayoko meanwhile is a player that has been completely outside the plans so much so that he was close to joining Adana Demispor in January. He is on a two-year loan from Chelsea and needed 15 appearances of at least 45 minutes each to trigger the obligation to buy. He had zero appearances all season prior to Saturday.

For Vranckx meanwhile the repeated exclusions suggest that using the €12m option to buy is far away from Milan’s plans and to reverse that something quite big would be needed. Thiaw shows that there is still some runway to do so, but not much.

  1. This guy is just too good to lose cos of 12million…. This guy has everything it takes to be a successful player….. What’s Pioli or the management doing for God’s sake. We should pls buy him❤️🖤

  2. Pretty sure that when vranckx joined us that there were an interview with either wolfsburgs owner or sporting director where he said that there would not be given any discounts on the already agreed upon loan deal so unless we actually has more than 50 mil in the summer which doesnt seem too likely it would be surprising for him to stay beyond this season.
In the end though and regardless of bakayoko might not have any future in ac milan its grood that he didnt end up in adana demispor due to the severity of the earthquake in the area.

  3. You don’t need much to tell he will be good. Not giving him enough chances in play is a huge mistake, letting him leave because of that will even be a bigger mistake

  4. Pioli doesn’t know how to build a squad. Why the hell did they buy/loan Vranckx and Adli? Why? He has them rotting on the bench. Absolutely no rotation. Not even minutes. If Milan are serious about being competitive they should look elsewhere.

  5. First of all, Baka and Vranckx have different characteristic. Clearly Pioli decided to play a more defensive player in the last minutes against Monza.
The problem is that Milan squad have only two natural defensive midfielders (Benna and Baka), the rest (Sandrino, Krunic, Pobega; Vrancks) are all midfielders that can play as CDM (but are not naturals at that position, and even struggle a bit on it).

  6. Thinking of it, It seems like… Milan actually wants Bakayoko strategically but the amount and salary is too high for Milan….. The loan contract is what Milan is trying to avoid (playing 15 games is a must for Milan to buy, but the deal from the management is that he must not play up to 15 games b4 the end of the loan, once his so now ready to see more of Bakayoko b4 end of the season at list 10 game, once his contract expires Milan will get him free and permanent. Watch… Bakayoko is a world-class player even better than kessie once his on is picked.

  7. Bruh he’s 19 years old he can learn way more than krunic or bakayoko so the price isn’t high and after we get him we can try and sell krunic and kick 🦶 bakayoko

  8. Love it when average fans turn into pundits, scouts, and managers like they know more what to do with Vranckx than Pioli who trained and watched hin at every day training.

    1. The same Pioli under whom we’ve seen multiple young players barely feature, then suddenly get a few games only because of an injury to his usual favorites, and they explode showing their true potential? That Pioli? 🤡
