CM: Adli and the lack of playing time – Pioli considers him a one-position man

Yacine Adli has struggled to get playing time for AC Milan thus far this season and the main issue seems to be his position on the pitch. Or at least it was initially, as Stefano Pioli now has a clear idea of where he can play.

The former Bordeaux man was signed by the Rossoneri last summer but was left on loan for one year. He took his first steps at Milanello this summer, therefore, and he has been working with the team ever since.

However, despite being available, he hasn’t played much for Milan thus far. As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, he has only played 46 minutes for the Rossoneri and that isn’t what many fans expected, given the excitement surrounding his arrival.

The main issue has seemingly been his position, but Pioli has now more or less made it clear where he can play: only as No.10. Before the game against Bologna, the manager stated that he doesn’t see Adli in the midfield tandem.

After that game, he elaborated further and stated that he doesn’t think Adli can play on the sides either. Finally, during the press conference yesterday, he revealed that he hasn’t tried the Frenchman as a mezz’ala either (three-man midfield).

The trequartista role is the only one left, in other words, and he will have to fight with Brahim Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere for a spot.
