CM: Arnautovic seen as ‘icing on the cake’ – Milan’s strategy remains unchanged

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are planning their moves to reinforce the attacking department and the name of Marko Arnautovic continues to be linked.

As Calciomercato.com report, the renewal of Rafael Leão will be made official next week but it reduces the budget available on the market. That’s why innovative ideas will be needed to try to strengthen a squad that has shown obvious shortcomings this season, especially in attack.

Arnautovic’s name remains on the list of Paolo Maldini and Massara. The Austrian striker represents a temptation for the two directors, who admire him for his technical quality, eye for goal and leadership.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s farewell at the end of the season becoming more and more likely, an experienced striker with these specific characteristics would represent a resource for Stefano Pioli.

Milan would seize the chance if the conditions were right, but without changing their strategy. They want to invest in a young striker to learn from Olivier Giroud, with Arnautovic more the ‘icing on the cake’ rather than the main ingredient.

Bologna want €10m for the 24-year-old given that his contract is expiring in 2025. To date, there is still no real negotiation and there have only been talks with agents and intermediaries close to the former Inter man.

Maldini and Massara must first understand what the future of Rebic and Origi will be, and then if both were to leave the proceeds could see two strikers arrive.
