CM: Bologna braced for auction as Milan and Man Utd want €50m star

By Oliver Fisher -

Joshua Zirkzee is struggling a bit for form at the moment but he remains one of the most talked about players looking ahead to the summer transfer window.

He has eight goals and four assists this season across league and cup, which has attracted the attention of a number of different clubs who want a new striker ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan are among the biggest admirers of Zirkzee given their desire to invest in the No.9 of the future, but they face strong competition to land him.

Bologna paid Bayern Munich €8.5m to sign the Dutchman in the summer of 2022 but today he has a significantly higher market value and the Rossoblù club is confident that an international auction will break out to raise his price tag.

Sky Germany are reporting that Manchester United want Zirkzee, having already signed a striker from Serie A before in Rasmus Hojlund who they bought for €75m plus €10m in bonuses.

Positive scouting reports led to the first contacts and the mission is on to try overcome the competition, which as mentioned is represented by Milan.

They still don’t know if Olivier Giroud will renew, while one of the ideas is to hire Thiago Motta as head coach which would obviously make the pursuit of Zirkzee seem even more attractive.

Attention must then be paid to Bayern Munich because they can buy the 22-year-old back for €40m. As per Sky Germany, the Bundesliga champions are observing the situation but at the moment are not inclined to make a move.

The alternative option of waiting for the proceeds from the future profits – of which they are entitled to 40% – is more appealing, especially given he will likely fetch €50m or more.

  1. 1) If we’re scouting the same guys as ManU, we’re in trouble. They’ve consistently had the worst scouting over the past 5-8 years or so. Look at their purchases, how much they spent and how they’re fairing today.

Look at the Rasmus Højlund or Casemiro signings as an example.

    2) I’ll say it again. Moncada sees a moneyball purchase in Zirkzee. Buy now, sell higher later. But is Zirkzee really good enough? Are people (Moncada) rushing to buy the cheapest forward and push it as a big deal because Milan cannot sign a good forward?

So we go for the flavor of the month and then call him the next Leao, even though we know he’s actually the next Messias in a long line of Messias type players dating back to Fat Cassano, Cerci, Matri, Destro, Torres, Lapadula, Piatek and so many more.

    3) No auctions. Moncada’s not experienced or honestly smart/shrewd enough, Milan will get roasted.

    Again, very disappointed with Moncada.

    1. Man Utd problem is not so much he scouting. Casemiro is good. The club environment is toxic and is causing the bulk of the problems. Good coaches can’t even turn around the issues they have there.

On Moncada, my inside boils when he lists greats DMs he’s scouted from out of nowhere when he was at Monaco(eg Fabinho) and can’t do the same for us now. Its so annoying. If we’re on this so called path to sustainability I’m fine with Thiaw type signings and having patience with them. Btw I do give him credit for some cheap profiles that turned out to be great eg Kalulu and Thiaw but why can’t we have the same for mids and forwards. He seems to be caught up in the slightly more expensive cost bracket players instead of sticking with his ‘scouting for cheap ‘ method that his reputation has been built off of

    2. Moncada looks for players based on Furlani’s parameters. You understand that right?? The likes of Theo, Leao, Mike were scouted by the same Moncada you criticize. But yea, you’re disappointed with Moncada??

      Are you serious?! LMAO!!!

  2. The hell are you talking about?
    1. If we are scouting the same players as ManU, we are in trouble, and you gave a 20 year old and one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation as an example for bad scouting? Hojlund scored 5 goals in his 1st year in UCL. Leao for example has 3 in e years.
    2. How would Zirkzee be a moneyball cheap forward purchase if his price is 50 mil?
I’m surprised you didn’t incorporate the word algorithm in your rant.
Messias for the money he was bought gave Milan the same final product Leao has given for the money he was bought.
    3. In an auction the player, or the object for sale, goes to the party that offers the most money. What does experience, smarts and shrewdnes have anything to do with it?

  3. Honestly, Zirkzee has only impressed Bologna for half a season for his price tag to be so high, it is ridiculous.

  4. it’s more like Bologna did better moneyball, buy 8-9m then sell 40-50m, moneyball is svck (buy then sell for instant profit) stupidest is the last buyer here, please don’t be Dortmund & we are not MU
