CM: Fenerbahce temptation and Pioli’s veto – the background on Krunic’s summer

By Oliver Fisher -

It was a strange summer for Rade Krunic, who was at the centre of speculation regarding his future while at the same time being at the centre of Stefano Pioli’s midfield plans.

According to Calciomercato.com, Krunic did not contest Pioli’s decision regarding his future, after the Milan head coach vetoed his sale. The Bosnian international is considered a fundamental player for Milan and his performance against Roma is tangible proof of this.

The temptation was certainly there for Krunic when Fenerbahçe called. When a club offer to triple your salary, it’s hard to remain indifferent, but Krunic never forced his hand to leave due to the great respect he has for Milan.

With the Rossoneri he has the chance to be a regular starter in the Champions League and he won the Scudetto a year ago, so he realises that his current situation is a good one.

Milan recognised the professional attitude of the player and his important leadership role on and off the pitch. This is why we are moving towards a renewal until 2026 with a pay rise. A deserved award for an increasingly fundamental player.

  1. You guys must stop being so delusional about Krunic.
The guy has been okay against very, very, VERY lame opposition, and he’s been accompanied by arguably the strongest Milan we’ve seen in years.

The things he’s doing are what any professional player, let alone one playing for AC MILAN, should do: properly receive a ball and then pass it 4 meters to a free teammate in the least congested and pressured zone of the pitch.

It was a huge mistake not to upgrade. Krunić and RW were our biggest needs and the ones that could be upgraded easily and cheaply. RW was executed masterfully, but as we know Krunic is Pioli’s son, so there we go.

Once we start facing serious foes, he will get mauled, and you’ll see how limited this guy is, as we have seen all these years you guys just can’t handle the truth. Hopefully, the rest of the team can make up for the massive avenue that our midfield is going to be with this Serie B player.

Seriously, if we had a proper player, someone like Kessie, I think we should be top 3 contenders to win the the Champions League, that’s what is so infuriating about fielding someone as Krunic.

    1. Spot on. The white knights of Krunic will be on here soon to defend his honor. They get very emotional and will insult you and say you’re not a real fan and he’s soooo good.

    2. I wouldn’t call Roma lame opposition but I do somewhat agree that we could have used an upgrade if we could afford it and that he’s limited. Otherwise he’s been quite good and is growing in the role really well. What helps is his tactical intelligence

  2. the truth is we gained more points in important matches last season with Krunic on the field than without him, & that we dropped points against mediocre teams when ‘that serie B player’ was benched/injured.

What do you expect from Krunic in that role, you want him to drive forward, dribble opponents etc? That is not his job.. we have other players to do so. his job is to keep things simple, dictate tempo and team’s offence. Be the link between defence and attack. He does all that

& how much I love Kessie, he lacks football IQ to be a regista. You don’t put a buffalo in that role, we need an owl there.

    1. I’ll add a stat to that. Krunic +/- for being on the field vs off is positive meaning the team wins more when he’s on the field than when he’s off (which btw is better than Bennacer)
