CM: ‘Saving the bench with full merit’ – Fonseca’s biggest win from Inter-Milan

Paulo Fonseca should retain his job after winning the Derby della Madonnina, but a report has claimed that this was not the biggest victory of the game, and instead, AC Milan have gained something much bigger.

Milan’s start to the season brought many things into view, and the biggest or most worrying were the claims that the squad were not playing for each other or the manager. On several occasions, the effort levels of the team have been criticised and against Inter, this could not be repeated.

In the derby, everyone must give extra, whether it be running an extra yard than your opponent, or moving away from your standard role. The Rossoneri did that. Players took sacrifices, and for the first time this season, they fought for one another, and above all, their manager, as Calciomercato.com claims.

Fonseca should now keep his job, according to the report, but that is not his biggest victory. It is the ‘sacrifices’ made by the players, Theo’s ‘focus’, Fofana’s ‘grit’ and Emerson’s ‘desire for redemption’. A fantastic night made that much better by the fact that Milan displayed true Rossoneri spirit, a team that fought for each other, the coach and the fans.

  1. The turnaround by the players in the effort and the fight they have shown in the Derby is pretty spectacular. I’m not sure what to attribute that to especially since even on Tuesday they were in such disarray…

Did something click? Was it Ibra talking to players? more importantly, can we keep this momentum going forward and keep going like this? No one will fault Milan for losing any game if they play like this EVERY time.

    1. Ofc we can. Let’s hope we find the missing ingredients in the team and strong mental consistency. Maybe not in UCL, but we should keep momentum and get the f scudetto this season.

    2. That’s what I’m scared of is that always in a derby you find that motivation. But the difference is inter go into every game with that attitude and we haven’t. If we can literally go into every game with this sacrifice and attitude and play like that then whatever the result is I’d be proud of the boys. The biggest test is now against lecce. A team that we should win and must, but I want to seethe fire in their eyes again just like against inter.

  2. Missing from this list once again is The Spoiled Rotten Tarnished Former Golden Child…
Well, I don’t really need to speak his name, do I?
You all know who I’m talking about.

  3. I think both our forwards great work is what gave the whole team extra strength. I’m really impressed by both Moratas and Abrahams work rate. After 4 years with Ibra, Giroud and Jovic on top these two players show how much it means to have forwards who work hard for the team. And to have two at the same time doing that job opens up for the rest of the team to have more space. I hope Fonseca continues to play both and keep RLC on the bench.

    1. It wasn’t that Giroud didn’t work hard and more that he could work hard enough any longer. And that Pioli insistent on trotting him out the full 90 every game instead of developing a tactical approach for Jovic and ok4. All respect to Giroud.

I couldn’t agree with you more about Morata and Tammy on the field together.

I almost want to see the same system against Lecce with Jovic coming in at 60 for Morata to learn if we have the rotation piece we need or if an adaptation will need to be made. Jovic is good with the ball at his feet like Morata but he doesn’t chase like a rabid dog (or maybe just hasn’t?)

I’d also like to see Leao come off at 60 for Ok4. The idea being rest and developing an alternative (send a message but a nice one 🙂 ).

At 75 I’d like to see Chuk come in for Tammy. Ok4 to striker and Puli to the left.

All this is predicated on us having a solid lead at the time.

In defense I’d like to see Tomorri come out for Pav at 60 to see how Gabbia and he work together. I am curious to see if Pav positioning and passing improves with the calm of Gabbia next to him.

I share your excitement about our attack and hope to see Fonzy show he understands it’s 3 trophies we are chasing, not a spot in the UCL next year.

I’d like to see Reinjders come out around 70 for Zeroli. Reinjders needs rest and Zeroli needs opportunity.

      Forza Milan

    2. The problem with playing both Abraham and Morata is that they need rest. This formation won’t work long term, especially with Jovic not even on the CL roster.

  4. Well it was a great game for us, but the inter Milan we defeated yesterday isn’t the real inter, I guess it’s fatigue on their side, inter didn’t really look dangerous from the on set which is very unusual, let’s see how well we can play them at their best,

    1. Well no. Inter have also had a sputtering start to the season, largely due to Lautero Martinez having yet to score a goal, and having only one assist (his pass to DiMarco in the derby)
Lautero had a gueling summer as he was the top scorer in the Copa America and Argentina went all the way to the final and won.

  5. Why leao like never really involve himself in the game since he sign the renewal ? He should have done better vs inter ( If he wants to be superstar )
