CM: Fonseca puts faith in Torriani – he could change the goalkeeping hierarchies

By Oliver Fisher -

Lorenzo Torriani’s name has appeared on the team sheet in each of AC Milan’s two friendlies so far this summer, and it is possible that he has jumped the hierarchies.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Paulo Fonseca decided to start the 19-year-old Torriani against Haaland and Grealish to see how he did in the first high-level friendly of the summer, having done well in the Rapid Wien game.

Stefano Pioli took him on the last preseason tour and last season he was on the bench for the games against Cagliari and Genoa in the final part of the campaign, during which he often trained with the senior squad.

A month ago he received his first professional contract, penning a three-year extension, and the arrival of Fonseca as head coach has given him a chance to show what he can do.

Last year Torriani split his time between the role of Noah Raveyre’s deputy in the Primavera and that of a starter in the Under 18s where he was a teammate of Maximilian Ibrahimovic, the son of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

This year he will play in Serie C with Milan Futuro and will battle with Lapo Nava and Noah Raveyre for a starting spot. The Rapid and Manchester City games showed how confident Torriani is with the ball at his feet, something that will not be lost on the coach.

  1. I was pleasantly impressed by this kid. He couldn’t really do anything about either goal because Tomori and Calabria were asleep again instead of defending. But otherwise looked comfortable, especially with his feet in distribution.
