CM: Genoa set price for talented Milan-linked attacker – the numbers

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are one of many teams that have been linked with a move for Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson and the Ligurian side have revealed how much money they expect to receive for him.

As reported by Calciomercato.com, the Rossoblu are aware that they have a really talented attacking player on their books and they think he is worth around €35 million, which would be a serious outlay for Milan.

Milan have certainly shown interest in Gudmundsson and he has historic links to the club, but given he is primarily a winger, he would not immediately come into the starting lineup.

The Rossoneri are also not the only team that has shown interest in the Icelandic player. Fiorentina tried really hard to sign him in the final few days of the January transfer window but could not strike a deal, whilst Juventus and Premier League teams Newcastle and Tottenham are also very keen.

The 26-year-old can also add Napoli to the list of teams that are interested, and Genoa are known to be open to a sale in the summer given they will then have the chance to reinvest some of the money.

A sale for Genoa in January would have caused major concern given, whilst they should be fine, nobody in the bottom seven or eight teams is safe from relegation yet.

  1. Good player with a look of really good tricks.

Reservation is that it risks being CDK all over again.

He’s best position is clearly as a second striker. He can play on the wing but he’s not really our style of winger (i.e. getting to the by line to put in a cross, quick for the counter attack).

It’s a lot of money to pay to play a guy outside of his best position and whose attributes, in his secondary position, do not really suit the way we like to play.

I see him as an extremely similar player to Dybala.

      1. As I said, Gudmundsson is a good player.

The issue is not whether he is ‘good enough’, much as CDK is no proving. The issue is whether we ought to be spending big money on second strikers who we can’t or wont play as second strikers.
