CM: Milan interest and a fight for Europe – Torino star reaches crossroads after milestone

AC Milan remain determined to sign a new centre-back in the summer and it is likely that they will go back in for Alessandro Buongiorno, a report claims.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Buongiorno achieved 100 appearances for Torino on Friday at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona against Napoli , in a match in which he effectively canceled out Victor Osimhen.

Before today’s training the centre-back received a special celebratory shirt directly from Torino director Davide Vagnati, a man who expects to take more calls about the centre-back this summer.

Buongiorno is one of Torino’s prized pieces and last summer he was wanted by Atalanta but the deal did not go through because the player said no. In January Milan tried, but in this case the negotiation never really started because Urbano Cairo said no.

However, the Rossoneri have not given up on the Granata captain: on the contrary, they continue to follow him with great interest in view of next season. The teams interested in the Torino vice-captain could increase after the European Championship, in which Buongiorno may be a starter for Italy.

Torino will not put him up for sale and hope to keep him, leveraging the great bond that Buongiorno himself has with Toro. It is the team which he has supported since he was a child and which he has played for since football school.

Yet, we must also take into consideration the legitimate ambitions of the 24-year-old, who would like to compete in European competitions. At the moment Torino are in the running for eighth place, which – if Italy were to finish the season in the top two positions of the European league ranking – would mean qualification for the Conference League.

Vagnati said on Friday: “The future of Buongiorno? It depends on what we manage to do, if we were able to raise the level and go on trips abroad every now and then it would be easier to keep him.”
