By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have been handed a huge boost in their reported pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, it is claimed.

Speculation linked Milan with a move for the current Ballon d’Or holder throughout the summer, with Boban apparently keen on bring his friend and compatriot to San Siro.

The speculation got most serious when SportMediaset (via Calciomercato.com) stated at one point that the Rossoneri were preparing a contract offer for the Croatia international.

Despite the fact he ended up staying that the Bernabeu,  to Calciomercato.it recently stated that we may not have heard the end of it as ‘the dream is still alive‘.

Now, Calciomercato.it have provided an update by stating that a big step has been taken towards Modric’s Real Madrid exit.

The outlet cite a report from Don Balon which states that Real Madrid already have a ‘total agreement’ with Ajax over midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The arrival of the Netherlands international would probably free Modric to leave for either a low fee in January or for free when his contract expires in June 2020. It is then that Milan will be ready to pounce.
