CM: Milan considering loaning out exciting academy prospect

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are considering letting Chaka Traore leave the club on a loan deal in the January transfer window so that he can get a taste of first-team football, a report claims.

As has been reported by Calciomercato.com, there is interest in Traore from within and outside of Italy and the club feel it could aid his development to play in a senior squad, something that is not expected to happen at Milan this season.

He has had the occasional involvement with the first team but it would take a real injury crisis for him to get meaningful minutes.

He has been linked with a move to Udinese in the past and clubs of that level would certainly be willing to make a move for the 19-year-old winger.

He recently renewed his Milan contract which will run until 2028, meaning there is little belief that he will be sold on a permanent deal in January.

Stefano Pioli, in mid-October, explained how he was being targeted by the Rossoneri first team: “We follow Traorè with interest, like the other Primavera players.”

Leao has also spoken about the quality of Traore in the past: “He will be the future of Milan: I really like him.”

  1. With bloody “interest”. The single reason to fire the guy is for not letting our talented Primavera players more minutes in the pitch.

    1. We give a lot of minutes to players that are 18-19. There is a limit to that in a club like us.

I don‘t know if it applies to you but often the fans that cry the loudest for minutes to primavera kids are also the ones that complain first about results.

  2. From all the youngsters we got to see, with some real stand out performances like Simic‘s, I feel Chaka Traore is the least inspiring.
Maybe a loan spell would help him to slowly build him up.

  3. These loans are a waste of time. These players rarely get meaningful playing time. Unless they go to the Championship or Scotland, they’re just going to sit on benches. It’s better for them to stay in the Primavera and play in the UEFA Youth League.

  4. I see Traore as a much better prospect than Romero who is fundamentally too slow for the wing, certainly for a top side. I’m yet to see any sign of the characteristics that would enable him to be a top player with his limitations.

I’d like to say that management agrees but, then, Traore would start in the Coppa against Cagliari, and could then be sent out on loan.

It is very hard to see much value in a loan for an 18 yo mid-year.

It usually takes 4 to 6 weeks for a player to settle into a starting position at a new club (and that it with everything being close to perfect).

Who is the coach and what situation is the team in? How many coaches are going to risk their jobs on getting an 18yo loanee up-to-speed? How is that to be explained if things go wrong?

For an example, I thought that I’d check in on Milan player Leonardo D’Alessio the other day. Out on loan at lowly Pro Sesto in the Serie C-A. He sat on the bench for the first 14 rounds got 17 minutes in round 15 and has started the last 4 games. I call extreme BS in response to any suggestion that the competition in the Pro Sesto squad at RB, RWB, RM and even RW is 60% of the talent of D’Alessio. But that’s how the system works.

I’d be amazed if Traore were to get 270 minutes of game time (i.e. 3 games).
