CM: Milan reflecting on the future of Romagnoli – Atletico Madrid and Barcelona interested

By Oliver Fisher -

Just as in the first derby where Romelu Lukaku got the better of him for the second goal, Alessio Romagnoli made another costly error on Sunday night.

The Milan captain allowed Stefan De Vrij to beat him to a corner which put the Nerazzurri 3-2 up and completed the comeback after a dream first half for the Rossoneri.

As Calciomercato.com note, it is often the big games against the best opponents that determine the absolute value of any player, and Romagnoli stumbled once again.

Even before the poor marking on De Vrij, during the first half he was left helplessly chasing Romelu Lukaku to the byline after he misjudged the run of the Belgian, and Matias Vecino should have done better from the pull-back.

Errors in evaluation, of reading the game, struggles during one-on-one battles against top players (remember Dybala’s goal in the match with Juventus?): these are situations that are beginning to repeat themselves over time and that sow more than a few doubts.

The best of Romagnoli came out with a leader next to him, ushc Alex at the beginning of his Milan adventure, Leonardo Bonucci two seasons ago and even Gabriel Paletta at times.

Looking at his long-term Milan future, Romagnoli’s contract expires in June 2022, and he changed his agent to become represented by Mino Raiola earlier this season.

Atletico Madrid have asked for information on the 25-year-old, while Barcelona itself carried out surveys during the talks over Jean-Clair Todibo.

The Rossoneri have been left to reflect, the report concludes, because in the current squad there is nobody considered unsellable.
