CM: Milan star ready to snub Barcelona and Man Utd in order to pen new long-term deal

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan and captain Alessio Romagnoli have the joint will to agree a contract renewal and continue their relationship, a report claims.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan have decided that they must tie Romagnoli down to a new deal for three key reasons.

Barcelona, Manchester United and Lazio are all credited with interest, but economic constraints due to the COVID-19 emergency means that there will likely be no big expenses from clubs, and therefore no big offers will arrive which gives Milan a better negotiating position.

The second reason is connected to the first: if crazy offers do not arrive for Romagnoli, the Rossoneri will not have a big budget in order to buy his replacement.

Finally, Romagnoli will represent one of the few leaders of the locker room who will remain in Milan to help gel the new group, given the farewell of Boban and the possible departures of the likes of Ibrahimovic, Donnarumma and Maldini.

Romagnoli has long been asking for talks to deal with his extension, and he has shown a willingness to stay for a long time. Soon there will be new contacts with his agent, Mino Raiola, to try to find an agreement that will satisfy all parties.

It is not certain that the black-on-white signature will arrive in the immediate future, but on the contrary – given the budgetary difficulties – it is probable that the announcement will come next season.
