CM: Milan still consider Celtic star a priority but Leicester may have crucial advantage

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan still consider Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer as a priority target for defensive reinforcement but they face strong competition, a report claims.

In recent weeks, various outlets have linked Ajer with Milan, with it seemingly being no secret that the club’s hierarchy are trying to find captain Alessio Romagnoli a long-term partner. The 21-year-old’s contract with Celtic will expire in 2022 and Milan have been keeping tabs on him for quite some time.

Journalist Nicolo Schria reported on Twitter last month that Milan are in a battle with Leicester for the signing of Ajer, but that CEO Ivan Gazidis is in ‘advanced talks’ with the agent of the Norwegian international.

Since then things have gone rather quiet on the matter, but the latest from Calciomercato.com provides a small update.

The transfer outlet confirms that Ajer remains a ‘priority’ for the Rossoneri in their search for a new centre-back, however Leicester are continuing to press strongly themselves.

The report hints that the Foxes may have an advantage as they are managed by Brendan Rodgers, Ajer’s old coach at Celtic.
