CM: Milan want €40-45m striker in January – excellent relations could help

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are hoping to use their positive relations with Lille to sign Jonathan David for a discounted fee in January, according to a report.

As Calciomercato.com report, Lille and Milan have never been as close as in recent years. After Rafael Leao made the move from France to the north of Italy and then Mike Maignan followed him, David could be next.

The Canadian striker is Milan’s big target and he is a profile that both Geoffrey Moncada and Antonio D’Ottavio have been a fan of for quite some time.

David is profoundly different from Olivier Giroud. He participates less in the build-up phase for a start, and instead moves across the entire front line looking for space in behind, he shoots well with both his right and left foot and has a great sense for goal.

These characteristics led him to score a lot in Ligue 1, a league similar to the Italian one. This is why Milan are convinced that Jonathan can also establish himself in Serie A with the red and black shirt.

David meanwhile has made it clear he is flattered by Milan’s interest and considers a move there to be ‘almost a priority’. The Rossoneri began talks over a deal during the summer window but Lille wanted €60m to sell.

The 23-year-old has a contract expiring in June 2025 and thus the deal was postponed to January because Lille now want €40-45m for the forward. The good relations with Milan put the deal on the right track to reach an agreement soon.

  1. Now you can see how much Milan overpaid for Charles de Keteleare. Back than it was better not to buy anything than to spend all money on him.

New fresh players are each year on the market.

    1. Easy to say in retrospect, but true that CDK was a huge gamble.

At that time we also have a chance to sign Botman (that we drop because we focus on one). That would be ideal sign, imagine duet of Tomori-Botman, with Kalulu and Thiaw as understudy.

      1. botman was signed by newcastle utd june 28th while maldini first had his contract renewed july 1rst so his hands was tied up untill that point and if media reports are to be believed then botman was his primary target but he couldnt do anything before that point as his transfer kit hadnt been made available to him before that point.

    2. At the time there was a lot of hype around De Ketelaere, like every transfer these days. Journalists focus on good stuff, maybe it’s optimism, but they miss the negatives. No one said he was not a player suited for our tactics.

David receives his share of criticism in Ligue 1, he’s missing many opportunities to score and he scores a lot of penalties they say.

  2. David and Miranda, would be very good addition for Milan in January. Bennacer also will return to the pitch at the same time or earlier. We will see a stronger Milan in January.
