CM: Milan were offered €42m Man Utd duo – why the deals never materialised

By Oliver Fisher -

Manchester United offered two players to AC Milan during the summer transfer window, a report claims, but both were rejected.

In the end, there would be some business conducted between Milan and the Premier League side as full-back Diogo Dalot arrived on a season-long loan.

However, according to Calciomercato.com, the Rossoneri also had the chance to sign two other players who ended up moving to the Italian capital from Old Trafford in Chris Smalling and Andreas Pereira, who joined Roma and Lazio respectively.

During their search for a central defender Madlini and Massara were offered Smalling by his entourage, but the conversation never went far because the player had made the choice to go back to Roma in a €15m deal.

Back in June, Pereira was offered on loan with an option or obligation to buy, but the idea never took off. That is because Milan had chosen Brahim Diaz by that point and did not want to invest the €27m demanded for Periera.
