CM: Milan winger Castillejo set for a starring role in Rangnick’s new philosophy

AC Milan are once again ready to give winger Samu Castillejo a starring role next season, a report claims, even if Ralf Rangnick arrives.

According to Calciomercato.com, Espanyol made an attempt to sign Castillejo during the January window, but the Spaniard refused the idea of a move back to his home country so he could try and wrestle back a starting spot at Milan.

After a year and a half of ups and downs, the exit of Suso and the shift to a 4-4-2 formation allowed Castillejo to nail down his spot as a starter.

Paolo Maldini predicted at the beginning of the season that the former Villarreal man was set for a big impact, as he stated: “Who intrigues me most? Castillejo, for his personality, his type of game and his characteristics. I think it will be a great surprise.”

Now, for the future, the ideas are clear: Milan wants to focus on him again. His characteristics, in fact, go perfectly with Ralf Rangnick’s vision of pressing, fast football based on speed and vertical movement. In his previous adventures, moreover, the German manager has often resorted to 4-4-2, something which again works in Castillejo’s favour.
