CM: Milan’s preparations for Inter clash continue – Rebic out as a temptation arises for Pioli

By Oliver Fisher -

The preparations are ramping up in view of Saturday’s derby against Inter at San Siro, but Stefano Pioli has some selection dilemmas to contend with.

According to Calciomercato.com, full-back Andrea Conti returned to training in Tuesday afternoon’s session which of course is good news for Pioli, but the chances of seeing Ante Rebic are fading quickly. Milan are still hoping for a quick recovery and new tests of his elbow dislocation are expected on Wednesday and he has been undergoing therapy on the injury, but it doesn’t look like he will be back in time.

Pioli is tempted to play Brahim Diaz on the left from the first minute as he could bring the unpredictability that is often needed in highly tactical matches. He is full of confidence too, having scored a brace with the Spanish U21 national team over the break, and he is currently ahead of Rafael Leao in terms of chances to start.

Alexis Saelemakers should start on the right after having made his first appearances for the Belgian national team. He brings balance on the right side, and his next target will be to have an impact in his first Italian derby.
