CM: Moncada selects No.1 summer target – why there is optimism

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face an interesting paradox tonight as they look to make it five league wins in a row when Joshua Zirkzee and Bologna come to San Siro.

It is a strange situation for Geoffrey Moncada who will watch the game as always in the stands: he wants Milan to win and keep Zirkzee quiet, but on the other hand positive signs from the striker would affirm a decision he already seems to have made.

As Calciomercato.com report, Zirkzee will play for the third time this season at San Siro having impressed twice against Inter in the league and in the cup.

In the 2-2 draw in Serie A he scored a goal with a sharp shot to catch Sommer out, then in the Coppa Italia he had the decisive assist in extra-time as the Rossoblu won 2-1.

The eight goals and four assists amassed this season by the former ADO Den Haag, Feyenoord and Bayern Munich forward are not exactly colossal numbers, but everyone seems to agree on his talent.

His market value has skyrocketed and no club would dream of offering below €30m, but Bayern Munich have a €40m buy-back clause. It is a figure that they can pay, but they have Harry Kane so a big investment up front seems unlikely.

The signs are positive for Milan therefore, and Zirkzee ‘is the favourite among the names studied by Moncada’ as per the report.

He is looking for a young striker, with potential but also one who offers certainties immediately, as the 22-year-old does. Tonight will be an audition.
