CM: One key factor saw Liverpool beat AC Milan to signing of bargain winger

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan held talks over the idea of signing Takumi Minamino earlier in the year, a report claims, with Liverpool now poised to complete a deal.

According to Calciomercato.com, Milan thought about trying to sign the Japan international due to the present of a €6million release clause in his contract.

They add that Paolo Maldini, Zvonomir Boban and Ricky Massara opened talks with the player’s entourage, but dialogues never got serious as the player made his preference to move to England clear.

Minamino has since been in red-hot form for the Austrian side so far this season, netting nine goals and amassing five assists in 22 competitive games.

The Times recently reported that that Jurgen Klopp was ready to sanction a bid from Liverpool to land the winger, while Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund has confirmed that talks have been opened with Liverpool over a deal.

The report adds that Jurgen Klopp has made the difference, calling the player to convince him  to move to Anfield. He will take his medical visits soon, and Milan may be left with huge regret.
