CM: Retegui prioritises Serie A move – Milan’s stance after a year and a half of scouting

AC Milan continue to monitor the situation of striker Mateo Retegui but they fear an auction could break out, according to a report.

Calciomercato.com report that Retegui has decided that he wants a move to Italy this summer after scoring two goals in his first two outings with national team, establishing that his priority is to leave Argentina and play in Serie A.

Last January both Verona and Udinese offered €10m to Tigre but now his asking price has doubled given that he has scored 8 goals in 11 league games this season and has exploded onto the scene with the Azzurri.

Retegui has all the characteristics of a modern striker: great physique, good speed, movement mainly in the penalty area and an eye for goal.

Inter moved first and collected the total approval of the player, but before starting a real negotiation with the Tigre – who will buy him outright from Boca Juniors for €2m but give them 50% of the proceeds from the future resale – they must wait at least until June.

Two conditions will be needed for Inter to seal the deal for the 23-year-old: qualification for the next Champions League and some big sales, given their precarious financial situation.

However, Inter face competition from Napoli and Roma who are observing developments with great attention. Milan have been scouting him for at least a year and a half though Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are not interested in participating in auctions.

The risk that an auction could be unleashed is rising considering that Eintracht Frankfurt have already presented an offer to the striker’s entourage in anticipation of making big money from the sale of Randal Kolo Muani.

The forward took note of the economic offer and the project presented by the German club but reiterated that first he wants to wait for an opportunity from Italy.
