CM: Romero bids farewell to Lazio on social media – why Milan want him so much

By Oliver Fisher -

Luka Romero has officially said goodbye to Lazio given that his contract has expired, and he will soon complete his move to AC Milan.

Calciomercato.com recall how Romero arrived at Lazio during the summer of 2021 but his adventure with the Biancoceleste will end after two seasons and limited usage. With a post on Instagram, Romero announced his farewell to Lazio.

“I want to thank the club, its fans who have always shown me esteem and affection and all those who have helped me grow as a professional and as a person, both on and off the pitch. Thanks Lazio, it was a honour to wear this shirt,” he said.

Now, Romero will join Milan on a free transfer after releasing himself from Lazio, thus joining a club that intends to continue trusting youth in the post-Maldini era.

Geoffrey Moncada and Giorgio Furlani have prepared a four-year contract for him – therefore until 2027 – because they believe the Argentine was an opportunity they could not miss out on.

At Milan he is a candidate for a position as a right winger, a natural role for him, but he could also be useful as an attacking midfielder given his playmaker qualities and ability to create.

Evaluations will have to be made, which will undoubtedly begin when Milan start their summer training camp, all while other targets like Christian Pulisic of Chelsea and Samuel Chukwueze of Villarreal remain targets.

  1. Still too soon to make quick impact in serie a and UCL. But let’s see how pioli does in making world class winger or AM out of him.

  2. If Romero is a promising prospect at RW, and we get Chukwueze as our RW starter, then why are we spending ~20mn on Pulisic? I get he can also play LW or AM but including his wages thats a lot of the budget to spend on a bench player.

Signing Chelsea rejects seems to be the only obvious strategy this window and I’m not sure that’s a smart plan.

    1. Because the chances of getting Chukwueze are incredibly low. They’re not only going to talk to a single target, because when that player gets offered English or Saudi money then we need to have other options ready. I don’t expect Chukwueze and Pulisic to both arrive, but either would be a potential upgrade.

  3. It’s somewhat harder to call players rejects from Chelsea. A few years ago they were very greedy, buying up any young talent just to have them. Like these syndicates buying combinations of lottery tickets to ensure profit.
I think Pulicic would be a great signing.
