CM: ‘Ruben problem’ and ‘disastrous’ Chukwueze – what Leverkusen-Milan showed

AC Milan will feel hard done by in the 1-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, and for good reason. However, this is not the only poor take from the game, as suggested by a report.

In recent weeks, things have seemed much more positive for Milan. The Derby victory showed that the Rossoneri are a side with potential, and the following win against Lecce only proved that further. A defeat against Leverkusen risked overturning the positivity, but it hasn’t.

Instead, there is an element of reason attached to the Diavolo’s defeat in Germany. It was not a case of a poor managerial performance, or even poor performances from players, but rather an element of luck, and poor officiating.

In other words, Milan were not the creator of their own downfall in this scenario.

Whilst the squad as a whole were not poor, Calciomercato.com highlights two poor performances from Rossoneri players which must be noted for the future.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – who was brought into the side for Alvaro Morata – struggled to get a grip on the game, and the report suggests that there is a ‘problem’ with him – he is far behind the curve for Paulo Fonseca’s style of football. It is suggested that he must work ‘harder and better’ otherwise he risks becoming a passenger in the squad.

Then there is Samuel Chukwueze. The Nigerian had a ‘disastrous’ performance, missing three passes, making two fouls, earning a yellow card, and just generally failing to have an impact on the game – at least in a positive sense. Chukwueze was ‘erratic’ on Tuesday night, and it is stated that Pulisic requires a ‘more reliable alternative’, putting the winger at a crossroads, and it is suggested that Milan are running out of time with him.

    1. I honestly believe that he will never come good for Milan. I hope he proves me wrong.

RLC is a good player and has played multiple roles for Chelsea. Even last year he was inconsistent. With the build that he has he should be like Yaya Toure for us lol.

  1. RLC has shown that he is capable of stellar performances but The problem we had with him is the same as the one we’ve had with Leo, and that is consistency.

I think we need to give him a full year under a new coach to see if Fonseca can bring out the best in him. As for the Nigerian, it’s tough for him to gain any sort of former momentum, given the stellar performances by Captain America. Chucky needs to seize whatever small opportunities he gets to earn more playing time. So far he has failed to do so.

    1. Everybody keep attacking chuku. first question when was the last time milan played him with a proper 10.. or a real cam..

Rlc is truly burned. i which we sold him to epl and bought sarmadic during the transfer market. i screamed so many times at rlc watching the match he make a good move forward only to pass the ball back 😭😭😭 and you want our attack to be deadly or clinical.

playing RLC/rei in 10 is affecting a lot of players
tammy have to track back all the time. he his a strike for goodness sake we need him close to the enemy box. same with Chuku. they don’t even trust him they prefer to pass the ball to the left where leao is being marked by 2. and you want leao to be a magician. dribble pass two players and beat the keeper to score wow wow. we should be using this moment to scold the mgmt and let fonseca and the boys cook while the mgmt get roasted

      1. Problem with chukwu is that he tries too much and and rarely succeeds. He got the ball plenty during his short time on the field. But like the article states. He missed passes and dribbles. The end result is that Milan lost possession several times at a critical point in the game. Sure he tries, but his loss of possession is worse than keeping it safe. A player must know when to try and not. I think he lacks that understanding. Or he is so he stressed when he comes on that that he feels he needs to prove himself and it all backfires.

  2. I dont understand the attack on Chukwueze the guy tried when he came on and he tried to create chance but his team mate don’t read his movement since we don’t have a creative midfielder Liberali should have play and see how CHUK will perform

  3. RLC and Chukwueze needs to be sold in January or next summer. They are just not good enough and after 2 seasons they are not getting any better.

I would also dare to say Milan should cash in on Leao next summer. Sorry but he’s lazy on and off the ball.

Sign Edon Zhegrova from Lille for the right wing and move pulisic to the left wing.

Ricci would be a good replacement for RLC and he is worth the investment. We need good Italians in the squad. I would also hope Milan take a chance on the young Casadei.

      1. help me tell them o. i can’t even believe an interfan will be the one telling this clowns that they are worst than mocanda. you will sell leao and rlc to get zera & casadei. what are you Ten hag or Man utd staff 🤦🏽‍♂️

    1. The January market is always difficult, but I don’t hate your sentiment. I think next summer it should be:

      Out:
      -Chukwueze
      -RLC
      -Calabria (end of contract)
      -Leao (it’s time)

      In:
-Tammy (permanent transfer, remember we have Camarda coming up so no need to splash big in this position atm)
-Starting LW or starting RW and Puli to the left (all depending on what we can find)
      -Backup RW
      -Ricci
      -Starting calibre RB

This all assuming Fonseca remains and we’re still playing with a system that employs wingers. If we happen to switch to a 3-5-2 manager, then sell the same players as above, but then get Tammy, add another DM plus Ricci, a right wingback, and another CB.

  4. I think we should try Okafor on the right wing, as a sub for Pulisic. He’s right-footed and given that we’ve now got Tammy and Morata as our strikers, a winger who is a crosser might be an element to add. Currently all of our wingers are inverted wingers, or inside forwards, designed to cut in and shoot with the opposite foot (opposite to the side they’re playing on).

  5. Rlc can be a very good player but he needs to play deeper alongside fofana so he can drive forward. Hes not a 10. If we want him to play there we may as well sell him to a mid level prem team for a good amount and reinvest the money.

  6. Question to Rossoneri fans

If Atlanta offered a direct swap Leao with Lookman, Will you be happy with that? Is Milan better off such swap happens
