CM: Spurs, Arsenal target Sabitzer is a pupil of Rangnick – a reunion at Milan is not excluded

Red Bull have had plenty of success stories in their ever-growing European football empire, but Marcel Sabitzer is up there among the best.

The Austria international was the star of the show on Tuesday night. He netted twice as the Bundesliga title hopefuls swept aside Jose Mourinho’s Spurs to reach the Champions League quarter-final.

Sabitzer was just 18 years old and was playing for Rapid Vienna when Rangnick noticed him and decided to sign him for Leipzig, who back then were not even a top flight club. The dynamic midfielder was then loaned to Red Bulls Salzburg, another team managed by energy drink giants, where he continued his development.

He cost Leipzig just €4million, a golden deal considering that today he is worth arounf €40million, as per the report. When Sabitzer learned that Rangnick would become head coach and sporting director of Leipzig in 2018, he said: “ I was delighted to follow him to Leipzig. He has a great esteem for me, I trust him a lot and his advice which is fundamental for me.”

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Sabitzer is attracting interest from Arsenal and Tottenham themselves following his impressive displays this season, during which he has amassed 15 goals and seven assists in all competitions, but the list of his suitors is destined to grow from here to the end of the season.

Interestingly, the report ends by noting that a reunion with Rangnick at Milan – where the German is set to become head coach and sporting director – cannot be excluded.
