CM: ‘Total approval’ – what Milan need to launch concrete attempt for De Zerbi

By Oliver Fisher -

After deciding to put Julen Lopetegui on stand-by, the AC Milan leadership have gone back to the drawing board to try and find the right head coach for the future.

As Calciomercato.com report, Milan know that the choice of the next coach cannot be wrong, because the objective must be to improve on the current second place position in the table and not just be satisfied with finishing in the top four despite president Paolo Scaroni’s words.

The next Milan manager must help the team to play in an attacking and positive but also balanced way, enhancing the technical level of the squad and with particular attention paid to injury prevention. Before any of that, though, there is the end before the means: win the Scudetto.

Julen Lopetegui was taken aback by the protests against him and the handshakes with the Rossoneri directors from a few weeks ago risk being the last he hears from them because Milan are now evaluating alternative paths more carefully.

It should be remembered, however, that the Basque coach – despite the pole position he had acquired – had been warned that there would still be consultations with other coaches before reaching a final decision.

Who might those other candidates be? Paulo Fonseca’s name remains standing and is gaining some steam while Mark van Bommel is someone that Zlatan Ibrahimovic likes too.

Milan had already expressed ‘total approval’ of Roberto De Zerbi in recent months but the €14m release clause has not yet allowed the start of negotiations. If the conditions to circumvent this economic obstacle arise in the next few days, then Milan would be ready to get serious.

“Milan had already expressed ‘total approval’ of Roberto De Zerbi in recent months but the €14m release clause has not yet allowed the start of negotiations. If the conditions to circumvent this economic obstacle arise in the next few days, then Milan would be ready to get serious.”

It’s like saying, we totally approve of Sesko but his 40+ million release clause has not yet allowed the start of the negotiations and if the conditions to circumvent this economic obstacle arise then Milan would get serious 😀

      1. Frankly, I wouldn’t be sad if they did that, Simic is in the last year and I have doubts on whether he’s going to renew…

The question is whether Brighton would agree to that, they can buy Simic for max 3-4million if he doesn’t renew his contract and would probably get the 15 mill from another club (or keep De Zerbi).

The only thing that might happen is if De Zerbi pushes hard to leave, and so far I don’t think it’s going to happen.

so yeah, nice scenario but unlikely 🙂

        1. I was just kidding a bit but i could actually see it happen because wasnt brighton and west ham interested in him according to recent media reports ? weirder things has happened before so maybe with a bit of cash on top of it it might be feasible.

I would like to keep simic but i would nevertheless not be completely against it as de zerbi could be a long term solution for milan. Him and Motta there is something to build upon the work already done compared to hiring a guy like conte who i really oppose bringing in.

  2. This article is not telling us much. We all know RDZ would be on the 1st flight out of England if he didn’t have a release clause. So please tell us something we don’t already know. By the time we finally realize that Milan won’t go for him the new season would have started. What are the available options that can be pursued…let’s hear some developments on that front.

    1. I wouldn’t say he isn’t an upgrade… Hes a promising coach who plays modern attractive football. A coach that can grow because he’s young. Once again, no coincidence Liverpool, barca, city all wanted him. Out of all who were linked with its between him and motta for me. All the others, might as well keep pioli

      1. Liverpool never looked at him. Barca is a dumpster fire that would take anyone. And City interest is smoke because Guardiola paid him a compliment….

DeZerbi isn’t ready for a big club.

  3. We can sign foncesca or De zerbi but foncesca will be better but we need to sign at least two attacking midfield solid then Loftus cheek and sign a winger

  4. I don’t know if you who comment here are children or don’t know anything about football, De Zerbi is so much better coach than Pioli, DZ first of all has a game plan and plays fearlessly. he would never go into a derby against inter trying to get a point he would never change his game against a team. he plays out city with brighton. he is a fearless young trainer who is absolutely ready for the next step! plus he’s a milanista! and not only that, you have to see what kind of material he has to play with in brighton please someone he has made DUNK a mediocre champion chip player into a top back in PL. too many here talking without a clue. look what he does in brighton with mediocre players, think what he would turn us into! we still have a little more power ffs. pick up De Zerbi or Motta. there are no other options!
