Sergio Conceicao has refused to focus on the success in Saudi Arabia, instead stating that his AC Milan side must continue impressing rather than be distracted by the Supercoppa Italiana.
In just over a week, Sergio Conceicao has beaten two of Milan’s biggest rivals, winning the Supercoppa in the process. For fans, he has already established himself as a potential future great, and the Rossoneri look like their old self.
It is early days of course, but the Portuguese head coach has started in a manner that would be dreamt of, but it must be followed appropriately, rather than being a sign of something that never was.
Conceicao is very aware of this though, and in an interview with Milan TV, the new head coach admitted as much, with Milan News relaying his words.
“We are all happy for the hard work we did. There were a few days to prepare, but things went well because the boys were humble and played with the right mentality. This is only the beginning, we must continue on this path.
“As of tomorrow, however, we’ll immediately think about Cagliari. It’s a success that gives confidence to the whole group and the environment. We’ll leave everything on the field in every match.”
On his work…
“The credit goes to everyone, I found people who want to win and who work well. We must continue like this. The taste of victory must give us even more desire to win, no relaxation.”
On the comeback…
“I am very satisfied. At half-time we changed a couple of things. We took two blows at the end of the first half and at the beginning of the second, but the team showed great character.”
On the cigar after the game…
“It’s my 13th title as coach. I had a great desire to return to win in a country like Italy where I did very well as a player. This club deserves it.”
His words will only add to the excitement of the fans, who have already taken a love to him after the result and his reaction on Monday night.
Will given it’s not a real tournament I hope so.
What do you mean not a real tournament?
It’s our reward for our second place finish from last season. You know. That Pioli achievement from last season that you like talking about so much
😂😂😂
Second only to mentions of your love of the transfermarket.
This tournament, important or not, was fundamental for Sergio to take off and get the team on his side. It was fundamental for these lads and the mentality.
More than the trophy won, it was an even bigger win for overall atmosphere and mentality.
Winning the Supercoppa was a huge challenge, and Conceicao passed it with flying colors. However, the game against Cagliari on the weekend will be an even bigger test, because it’s precisely the sort of run-of-the-mill game against lowly opponents in which we’ve struggled this season. The euphoria of Riyadh will quickly dissipate if we don’t win against Cagliari. I’m pleased to see that Conceicao is fully aware of the problem.
Remember this was just two free games while he works with the team to get them ready for Serie A. The trophy and the sad faces of inter players were just a bonus. Focus is needed on the ultimate goal here.
We went to the super cup Italiana as an underdog amongst the 4 teams for the competition and we came out victorious, we also went to that same competition with a new coach starting his debut in dsame competition with alot on injured players and we won, some of you will want to say it’s luck but let me remind you that the players played the games convincingly to deserve the cup. They played with hunger unlike Fonseca era. If it was to be during Fonseca that we went behind 2 goals down against inter that is end.
Stick to 433 and use 442/343 when we need to force the attack. Keep Pulisic on the right. With Bennacer, RLC, Jimenez and Terraciano, we have enough midfielders for this alternate formation. Bring Gabbia to starting line up to secure a good defense. Play Tomori as RB.
Well, that reminds me of Montella who always show off his Supercoppa trophy
