CorSport: Milan want more than just Gabbia but Guirassy may not join – mercato latest

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan will begin their January transfer window on January 2 with the return of Matteo Gabbia whose loan at Villarreal has ended, but they want much more than just his arrival during January.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Milan News), Gabbia is going to be a welcome addition to the squad given there are so few fit defenders in the squad right now, but he should not be the only defensive addition.

The favourite right now seems to be Clement Lenglet who is on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona, but that is not a simple move as it involves two clubs.

Other names in contention are West Ham’s Thilo Kehrer, Stade Brest’s Lilian Brassier, and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly who is also linked with Juventus.

In attack, Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy has been the favoured option but that deal is starting to look unlikely due to wage demands.

Instead of him, the young Matija Popovic could arrive from Partizan Belgrade as his contract will expire today, but the 18-year-old is also a target for Manchester City and he would not be able to make an immediate impact like Guirassy would.

What is clear is that Milan want an alternative to Olivier Giroud and Luka Jovic.

  1. I really don’t understand how getting a striker is more important than a midfielder. Bennacer and Krunic will leave this month and Adli is always playing risky as if he was told to never pass the ball back. RLC is below average so how is getting a midfielder not a priority?

    1. They see RLC as the second coming of Jessie even tho he doesn’t track back and score less goals, probably why they don’t see the need

    2. “Adli is always playing risky as if he was told to never pass the ball back.”
Lol.the irony in that statement given that it’s exactly what people didn’t like about Krunic and wanted Adli to replace him 😂
