CorSport: Atletico Madrid striker an ‘opportunity’ for Milan – the two obstacles

The rumour mill is churning out new AC Milan links seemingly every day and that latest name reportedly being considered is Alvaro Morata.

This morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via PianetaMilan) talks about the idea of Morata being ‘back in fashion’ for Milan and a potential ‘opportunity’ to land an experienced striker who knows Serie A well. However, there are two obstacles that must be overcome in order for him to arrive.

Sources in Spain claim that Morata is on Milan’s list, while the paper adds that the Rossoneri carried out an enquiry last season. While the Atletico Madrid striker was not ready to leave Diego Simeone’s team last year, he could this year.

The 31-year-old has a release clause of €12m and that is why he is a very tempting possibility, but not just for Milan. In fact, CorSport add that the two obstacles are the high wage demand from his next club and the huge competition to sign the Spain captain.

Morata’s comments while away with the Spanish national team regarding his future certainly opened the door to an exit: “I’m ready to leave. If I read that they want to sign eight strikers then I understand that I am not the club’s priority. I can’t stay here and not play.”

  1. Any time “obstacles” are mentioned in our mercato there should be an asterisk* because the main obstacle is Redbird.

Fairly certain Furlani doesn’t even the contact info for each of serie a counterparts unless they reach out to him first. In their shoes, I certainly wouldn’t deal with him face to face.

Moncada claims to love Latin football except we mostly buy players from France, Netherlands and Germany.
When we do its players like Musah.
Musah was purchased when Hjulmand was available (and at Lecce), among others who are roughly 20m euros.

Zlatan being Zlatan, but this time with no skills or experience to back up his antics.

To me, these are obstacles and they are ever present with this current management. Another others are in addition to this.

    1. Moncada is the main problem. We need a scout that focuses on Serie A talent. Furlani gets deals over the line, as we saw last season so he’s not really an issue.

Zlatan is in a new role. He should be given time.

  2. There is a solid reason why Morata costs only 12M€. But hey, why pay 12M€ for him as there are strikers even lower price tags?! I bet you could find similar 2-3 goals per season strikers for 3-5M€ too. In fact, we’ve already got Colombo & Maldini on our payroll and they can score the same amount of goals per season.

And if you want to save even more $$$s on the next striker, why not promote Camarda and play him as the #9? Make him earn his massive salary, right?

    This is getting f*ng insane.
