CorSport: Fresh opportunity beckons as defender returns to bolster Milan’s rearguard

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli will be able to count upon defender Leo Duarte who has recovered from injury, a report claims.

As il Corriere dello Sport reports (via MilanLive), the Brazilian has fully recovered from the injury that has kept him in the pits since last November.

The former Flamengo centre-back, suffered a fracture of the heel at the insertion of the left achilles tendon for which he was forced to undergo surgery in Sweden, and he has been out ever since.

Nonetheless, his long recovery road is now almost complete and his return – together with the exploits of Mattia Gabbia and the emergence of Simon Kjaer – gives Pioli a bolstered rearguard to choose from.

The pause for the Coronavirus emergency could also help Duarte too. It means that with the return to training, there will be an almost clean slate of sorts for players to prove they deserve a spot in the starting XI which will see the season out.
