AC Milan are interested in exploring a potential deal for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze, a report claims, but a key obstacle remains.
Gotze’s contract expires in June which has inevitably led to speculation that he could depart for pastures new in the summer, with Bild reporting that Milan, Inter and Napoli are interested in the 27-year-old.
However, il Corriere dello Sport reports on Wednesday (via MilanLive) that there is a major obstacle preventing Milan from tying up a potential deal at present, and that is the fact that the German international earns €7million per year in salary.
If he were to agree to halve that then the deal could really be done, as for his part Gotza would not be against an adventure in Italy at all, especially in Milan where his wife often works as a model.
Milano is in fact a city that they both know well and have visited several times in the past, but of course the Coronavirus emergency means that it is not currently a location of desire.
Gotze could play in the Hakan Calhanoglu role as a No.10 but also on both wings or even as a false 9, and could provide a key bit of experience to the squad, whoever the head coach is.
He has made 217 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions, amassing 45 goals and 61 assists in that period, as well as 60 combined goals and assists for Bayern Munich in 114 games.
